HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN
Skin is the largest organ of our body. It does not protect our body from diseases and infections alone , but also helps in regulates its temperature and also responsible in the production of vitamins especially vitamin 'D'. Keeping the skin healthy is very important for our beauty and general health, even though most of us are only interested in knowing how to keep the skin healthy but when it comes to actually adopting the measures to be followed for the same then those who following it religiously can be counted on the finger tips.
The best way to keep the skin young, fair, glowing, supple, soft, wrinkle-free and completely healthy is to stay away from the direct , bright and harsh sun light.
The ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun not only give the skin a healthy-looking complexion, but on the other hand also cause scarring, sunburns and damage to its elasticity. All this resulting into wrinkles, fine lines, loose skin, darkening of the skin, uneven skin tone (scarring), translucency, enlarged pores and dryness that makes a person look prematurely aged. No matter how a person is genetically superior , no matter how well he is taking care of his skin, no matter how much balanced diet he follows , All that will not show the desired results if he continually uses the sun light uncontrollably for tanning.
Protection from the harsh sun light helps in maintaining a healthy skin, but if there is no way to avoid it, then you have to make sure that you are using the right sunscreen. This becomes even more important and imperative when we are forced to stay in the sun for a longer period of time.
Considering that someone is fully aware of the negative effects of harsh sunlight, but still he has to adopt some necessary measures to bring about a positive improvement in the skin condition, that too, both in the form of diet and topically using some product that are not only beneficial to our skin but also protective as well. When used in combination then both of these methods proved out to be a very potent weapon. So let's try to find out that what are those skin nutrients and skin protection substances which play vital role in improvement and proper care of our skin -
FOOD SUPPLEMENTS
To beautify the skin and to maintain its beauty, the first thing that should be kept in mind is the balanced diet, diet that is right mix of all the vitamins and minerals which are not only beneficial for the skin but will prove helpful in proper activities of other vital organs of the body too.
Vitamins and minerals that may affect skin health include the B-complex, especially B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin) and B12 (cyanocobalamin). An apparent deficiency of vitamins B1 and B2 is known to cause certain types of dermatitis (a type of skin inflammation). B12 deficiency is particularly harmful to other rapidly dividing cells of our body in addition to neurons and skin cells.
In addition to B vitamins, deficiencies of vitamin C, iron and copper is also negatively affect the health and beauty of the skin. These three substances are important for the synthesis of collagen, which is present in the skin as a major structural protein, collagen keeps the skin healthy in every aspect and gives it a beautiful complexion.
Vitamin A is an important nutrient for the normal and healthy life cycle of skin cells. Deficiency of vitamin A makes the skin dry, fragile and prone to wrinkles. On the other hand, excessive vitamin A intake can lead to severe toxicity so its unintended use should be avoided.
Vitamins C and E, and beta-carotene are known to be anti-oxidants that reduce free-radicals. Free-radicals result in premature aging of the skin, as a result of which the effects of aging begin to appear on us prematurely. However, the harmful role of free-radicals and anti-oxidants is not only fatal for our skin but also play the main role of a villain in harming our entire body and its proper functioning, but the experiments that have been done on vitamins and other micronutrients have not yet been able to fully establish their worthiness for the rejuvenation of the skin.
As it has been mentioned earlier that excess in any form always proves to be harmful, so excessive dosage can also be as harmful as low dosage, therefore use the right daily allowance of everything in the right amount by following strict discipline as It play very important part in the whole process.
In addition to the nutrients used as food supplements , if the products that are used topically can be added then it will act as icing on the cake and fasten the process manifold. Topical care must be including sunscreen cream of at least SPF 30 (which contains skin-lightening properties) moisturizers (especially with skin lightening ingredients) and anti-aging lotions and creams. Although the effects of oral supplements are slow but actually becomes more subtle, effective, fast paced and lasting when used with topically usable products. As the collective affect of all this cannot be achieved in a week or two, so we, as consumers, have to test our patience by keeping our expectations in check. As the saying goes- “Slow and steady wins the race.” Therefore keeping patience while doing all this is the key to success.
Keeping all of the above in mind it is recommended to adopt a holistic or comprehensive approach for better skin health and desired glow as described under-
* Eating a healthy balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals and micronutrients, along with a variety of foods.
* Always keep your mood happy and positive. It is well documented that diseases such as acne and eczema show greater effects on the skin of people who are stressed.
* If you smoke, give up it completely. Smoke not only causes free radicals, but it also damages the microcirculation of the skin and is the main cause of tooth stains, discoloration and oral odor, as well as many other types of incurable diseases (including cancer, tuberculosis etc.)
* So avoid exposure to harsh sunlight and if you still can’t avoid it, then use a good sunscreen.
